EDINBURGH, SCOTLAND

Friday, August 20th, 2010

This was our second visit to Scotland this year. However this time it was for Erin + Glen’s wedding but we went a sneaky day early to recover from jet lag (aka explore Edinburgh!)

As with everywhere we’ve ever been and ever likely to go. Dani had a map. And we got lost.

Edinburgh beats even Baths paparazzi. This is my new favourite game to keep me occupied whilst Dani reads every single historic/tourist information point she can find.

We found a lovely little bar, where we spent most of the afternoon.

Apparently Haggis isn’t an animal. But if it was, this would be my best impression of it.

We found another lovely down-town bar/cafe, where we spent the other part of the afternoon.

Then we went to go + hang with Erin + Glen whilst checking out their location for the wedding.

This is one of Dani’s best “test the light” faces to date. I like to think she was half way through saying “Cheese”

ORBIT HAS LANDED

Wednesday, May 12th, 2010

So we have a chihuahua. For those who don’t know, I love dogs, but in small doses. I don’t have a great deal of patience for something conveniently the same size as my foot. So when Dani mentioned gettting a chihuahua, the conversation went kind of like this:
Dani: “Can we have a Chihuahua”

Chris: “Absoloutely no way, never, ever, ev-”

Dani: “Thanks Chris!”

So now we have a chihuahua, his name is Orbit. Obviously I came up with the name. This is reason #90823678623 why I shouldn’t ever have the responsibility of children.

A few facts about Orbit.

1. He is terrified of being picked up but he hates being put down (not in the deadly kind of way, although I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t enjoy that either)

2. He has good and bad ear days. Some days both ears will be up, other days one ear will be up and the other will be down.

3. To Orbit, sleeping is awesome.

4. Although he’s a lot smaller, he kicks Alfie’s ass daily.

5. He can’t bark, he just sort of whimpers and yaps.

6. He has the strangest smell (which is I think has more to do with the fact Dani brought COCONUT SCENTED DOG PERFUME?!?!)

7. Sometimes when he gets excited, a little bit of pee comes out.

8. Hurricane Orbit strikes approximately 3.4 seconds after Dani leaves the room without him.

9. He has a cage. He likes it in there. No really.

10. He does that awesome “I-don’t-know-what-the-eff-is-going-on” head-tilt ALL THE TIME

I’ve included a few snaps of Alfie + Orbit out in the garden from the hour of British summer time we had a few weeks ago. Bit odd looking at these photos, he’s already grown so much since, but any how…

Oh this is Alfie by the way, he’s grown a bit since the last doggy-woggy-bloggy. He looks Mexican, right? Whenever you speak on behalf of Alfie, you must mimic his Mexican/Dog accent or he gets annoyed.

ANOTHER FREAKIN’ HOLIDAY?!?! YES-SIR!

Seen as we’re at bursting point this summer with over 50 weddings, we won’t have a lot of time for holidays, so we take our summer breaks in the spring (when the weather is usually nicer). We went back to Newquay, a second home to us.

Wedding Photographer Cornwall and Newquay

So my sister has discovered photography, she took a few of the crappy photos in this post. She grabbed the shot above, i’m hoping she gets good so she can work for us without pay ;)

we went to a place called loch doon. which sounds like LOCH DOOM… we decided LOCH DOOM sounded more awesome so it stuck. the drive was the most epic drive of our lives down the smallest moutain paths, in torrential rain, hanging onto every word of the sat-nav lady.

whilst we were in Ayr, we were lucky enough to meet Erin + Glen. they contacted us a couple of months ago (interested in booking us for their wedding this summer)  + as soon as we know we were going to be in scotland, they jumped on a train from edinburgh to ayr so they could meet us and booked on the spot. so scotland hasn’t seen the back of us yet, we’re going to be staying a few days in july for Erin + Glens big day.

thank you scotland, it was good to be in you.

THE BIG TWO-ONE

I did a bit of turning 21 last week. I’ve never felt more silly. We went out for the day with one of our couples from last year – Artemis & Trevor. It was rad.

Our New Studio!

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

In our last post we mentioned about how slow we had got with blogging. Well this is the slowest post ever! We moved into our studio/shop front late October last year and it’s been a work in progress ever since. I’m gonna bore you with a story so brace yourself.

Before this, I worked from home. As awesome as it was, it was difficult to separate work from home. I don’t think I ever took a day off, I was easily distracted and I worked stupid hours as a result. So, around 2 years early than planned, Dani quit her day job at a bank, I packed up my kit and we got our first studio.

I fell in love with this place the moment I walked around. I loved it’s imperfections, it’s character and cottage-like charm. Dani raised an important issue: “Our work is modern and fresh but the studio is gonna feel super traditional”. I listened. Ignored her. Then called the estate agents the next day to arrange to sign it over to us.

There was alot of work to be done before we could start working from there. My favourite quote whilst decorating the studio was during the first week; “I think we should be ready to move in by the end of the week”. Understatement.

It was nearly two months before we were in the studio and meeting our first couples. Before we took over, it was a lovely little flower shop. We had a knock on the door over Christmas from the lady who used to run the shop. She explained how her and partner were working on a project to provide wedding flowers and photography in one package (her partner was a photographer). However, her partner died later that year and she decided to close the shop shortly after. She explained how surreal it was to see the shop become a wedding photography studio after they had made plans to put more emphasis on the wedding photography element of the business. It’s pretty corny but with this on our shoulders, I kind of feel that we owe it to them to make the most of this new opportunity. I’m glad she gets to see how we are progressing. Just before Christmas she dropped around the most awesome wreath for our front door.

It’s still pretty strange working in a new environment. I’m used to having my own private space, so having people glare through the front display window is sort of intimidating. My favourite people are the ones who still think it’s a flower shop. They haven’t seen the sign change and they walk in, look completely lost, mutter something, and then walk out without saying a thing to us.

Going ahead with the studio is by far one of the bravest moves I’ve ever made. It wasn’t a spare-of-the-moment thing, I spent months of sleepless nights number crunching and considering ever possible worst case scenario. Seeing something develop from the opportunities I’ve been given over the last few years is perhaps the most rewarding feeling ever.

Without breaking out into a Hollywood “thank you” blart, I want to say a massive thank you to ever.single.person that has been involved with what we’re doing in the last 6-12 months. Whether you’ve dropped by to help with DIY (because I SUCK at it) or simply gave us feedback recently, we couldn’t ask to be surrounded by a better bunch of people. Thank you everyone.

We finally got round to creating a little display of all the photos of us with our couples (on the right)!

1

The most important part of the studio is Dani’s print because it makes me smile, keeps me motivated and SHE’S FREAKIN’ HOT.

It might look like a bit of fun but it is, infact, the hottest competition in the history of competitions.

I forgot to grab a shot of our open sign too. It reads “Yabba Dabba Doo! We’re Open “Come in and say hello”

StudioFeb-0092

So we’re now actually properly open. There’s still loads of work to be done but we’re gonna be working on this over the course of the next year or so. Again, a massive thank you to everyone who’s dropped by or been involved over the last few months and thanks to all our amazing clients for allowing us to pursue our dream. We owe you lot big time! If you haven’t had chance to pop down yet, what the heck are you playing at! Get yourself down here soon!

Mexico, 2009 {Our Honeymoon}

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

We weren’t gonna blog this but thought “Why the heck not?!” So after getting married June last year we took two weeks out for our honeymoon in Mexico. It was the most amazing time, ever. We left the SLR’s at home at relied on my sisters point and shoot camera. Amazingly we don’t own a point and shoot camera. The whole idea was to just completely switch off from e.v.e.r.y.t.h.i.n.g. We love, love, love our job but being able to escape from everything was the strangest feeling.

So anyway, here are a few snaps, time-stamp ‘n’ all (yeah, we know the times are out.)
