Bath – Christmas Break

Sunday, November 29th, 2009

We love short breaks and we love England. I haven’t been to Bath since I was like zero years old and it sounded like such a fab place that we thought we should check it out. That AND Dani has this weird crush on Nicolas Cage who happened (not a coincidence) to be turning on the Christmas lights in Bath this year. It sure beat our home town’s Christmas light switch on (courtesy of Peppa Pig) so we thought WHY THE HELL NOT!

We immediately fell in love with the place. I got all geeky when it came to light bouncing off all the lovely coloured stone used in the traditional buildings whilst Dani stalked Nicolas Cage’s past and present accommodation. FREAK.

Then I got all cliche

And Dani got lost.

You know those epic, Hollywood enhanced thunderstorms you see in films? We experienced two minutes of one.

So it was only right that we visited the Old Baths. There’s so much History here which went completely over my head but Dani found it fascinating. We were given these strange phone-like guides to listen to on the way round. Dani chose to listenĀ  to EVERY.SINGLE.ONE religiously atleast 6 million times. This was the moment where she got a call on her phone whilst listening to the tour guide. It completely threw her.

I made a point of not taking any cliched photos of the Baths themselves. I didn’t see any point. Instead I made an attempt to photograph all the “I’VE JUST GOT AN DSLR AND I’M A TOTAL FRIGGIN’ PRO” photographers that were everywhere. Here’s a selection of my favourites, if you want to add captions, please comment. This first pair were clearly in competition.

DAMNAMIT maybe if I use the pop-up flash and become a contortionist I’ll get better cliched snaps

Bath-18

This one was my all time favourite. She was traveling alone and clearly wanted a photo of herself next to the Baths (fair enough!) She tried using every surface possible to get a self portrait. From this billion year old bench to a Roman pedestal. At one point, a bunch of school kids ran in front of the camera just as the self timer was going off. RAGE! I could have offered to take one for her but I had wayyyy more fun laughing at her attempts to get ONE good photo.

“Santa” in black shades with an ad board. Awesome isn’t the start of it.

Thank you Bath, we enjoyed being inside you.

Carmen & Kevin { Married! }

Sunday, November 22nd, 2009

We were thrilled to shoot this one! Carmen & Kevin are so full of energy, we knew their wedding was going to be a blast. This first image is taking centre stage as a framed print for the studio, Dani and I rarely agree on which photo is the most awesome but we heart this one long times.

These next two photos totally capture all the personalities that day. You all rocked!

Kevin was ultra calm.

Anyone who knows Carmen won’t be surprised at this. Although the day was spread over numerous venues and locations, it was really cool because most places were in walking distance which meant we could just shoot at snazzy locations without dragging them away from the day!

They live on this street so why not.

So we arrived at the reception and saw a gold mine. It was actually a disused warehouse, but to us – that’s a gold mine. Carmen and Kevin rocked it.

Louise & Mark {Married} Oratory Church, Novotel, Birmingham

Wednesday, November 11th, 2009

From the moment we met Louise and Mark – we knew they’re wedding was going to rock. We arrived during Louise’s bridal preparations and felt like we were already too late for the party.

ReasonĀ  23257278294.9999 why Louise is awesome: (Yes she wore them at the church, yes that’s reason 23257278295)

All the girls were really nervous. It shows right?

LouiseMark-3

This was the most mis-leading church in the world. On the outside – it’s just a brick wall with a doorway. On the inside – it’s a monster. I will now refer to it as THE TARDIS!

Oh by the way, this is Mark – he’s one of the nicest, kind-hearted dudes we’ve met. He also loves photography and is a part of our “clients that love 1.2 club” (I just made that up).

We OD’d on the architecture of this place, shooting like 1000 pics of the church alone.

LOVE Louise’s expression here! I’ve spent about 15 minutes thinking of a caption for this, because there could be hundreds. If you have one – please leave it as a comment!

Laura & Mike {Married} – Arrow Mill Hotel

Sunday, November 8th, 2009

It’s been ages since I shot Laura and Mikes wedding and for some reason I haven’t got round to blogging it. I spoke to Mike the other week and mentioned that him and Laura are expecting a little one in a few months, good luck guys! Anyway the wedding was awesome…

I accidentally smashed the venue’s glass vase to get this picture. It was worth it.

We love it when couples can’t keep their hands off each-other

Superstar Sophie

Thursday, November 5th, 2009

Autumn is one of our favourite times of the year to shoot pretty much anything we can – outdoors. We went to one of our favourite parks and created a handful of rad for Sophie’s first birthday!

Seconds later, Sophie mastered the swings and went full pelt into my face. I DIDN’T EVEN CRY.

Vikki & Dan {Married} St Peters Church, Dudley Station Hotel

Monday, November 2nd, 2009

Vikki and Dan got in touch with us around this time last year (where’s that gone?!). We met with them (and mum!) and instantly clicked. We were super excited about their wedding all year and really felt as though we’d known Vikki and Dan and all the family forever by the time the wedding came round.

We’ve met two couples this week that have said how much they love it when we rock it at 1.2 – This is for the 50mm 1.2 fans. Hi-5’s to you.

Dani talked ALL DAY about this. For those who don’t know, up until recently Dani owned an amazing red Mini called Cherry Drop but the novelty wore off so Dani sold it’s sorry ass after I sabotaged it sadly it broke down so many times that she had no choice but to pass it on to another proud owner. This is the second wedding we shot this year with a Mini. We love them really, just not when you have to push one the whole way to V Festival.

Some of my favourite church to venue driving shots yet…
